Remote Learning Plan for Middle School

GHC Remote Learning Plan (6th-8th Grade) Learning Management System: GHC will continue to use Google Classroom to deliver content and classroom assignments. Learning Time: ●We will continue to provide approximately 2-4 hours of learning per day. These learning experiences will be connected to state standards and foundational learning to ensure preparedness for the next grade level. ●All specialist classes (music, art, band, PE, technology, and Spanish) are optional moving forward. These teachers will provide learning activities at the beginning of the week that can be supplemented at your discretion. Students are encouraged to complete these activities throughout the week as they may provide the opportunity to test out of entry level classes when transitioning to high school in the years to come. ●Learning time on a particular day can fluctuate from one day to the next. We recognize that all students work at a different pace, so the amount of time spent doing school work can vary from one student to another. Please communicate with the middle school teachers if your student’s workload needs to be accommodated. Communication/Organization: Student assignments will be housed in one location moving forward. You can access this document by clicking here. Students will gain access to this document through the GHC website. A tutorial video has been emailed to your student showing them how to access this information. This document will also include upcoming Zoom meetings, including the time and meeting information. Rather than sending multiple emails throughout the week, we hope to streamline this process so that you can find everything you need in one place. This organizational document and all content for the day will be updated on the website and all content for the next day will be loaded to Google Classroom the night prior. Fridays @ GHC: We will not deliver new content on Fridays. This day will be used to synthesize and extend learning that has occurred throughout the week as well as catch up on any work that may not have been completed during the week or is missing/incomplete from previous weeks. On Friday, we will review concepts covered throughout the week and provide support to students as needed. This would be a day to potentially incorporate some of the specialist classes into your student’s daily routine, if desired. It is not a day off of school. Zoom Meetings: The experience and value of interacting with teachers and fellow classmates cannot be replicated in video form. Therefore, we are committed to Zoom experiences where teachers are able to instruct, assess, and provide feedback in real-time. These “live” instructional times will be mandatory moving forward. Students should plan that they will last 40-45 minutes. It will include review from previous assignments, the instruction of new content, as well as guided practice with the teacher. If your student is unable to attend, please make sure they email their teacher ahead of time. Students will have classroom assignments and lessons in the other content areas that are not meeting online on a specific day. In trying to create consistency for both the students and teachers we will adhere to the following schedule:
| Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday |
6th | Math (9:00) Science (10:00) | Math (9:00) Bible (10:00) | Social Studies (9:00) ELA (10:00) | Math (9:00) Science (10:00) | |

Assessment/Report Cards: We will be intentional about providing specific feedback in regards to student work on individual assignments over the next two months. We are committed to providing feedback in real time through Zoom meetings and will also assess student work on specific assignments, providing reteaching and instruction as needed. Grades will be kept for the five core classes and can be viewed on PowerSchool. Specialist grades will not count in the 3rd trimester. School Calendar: ●We will be taking off Friday, April 24 as planned. This will be an inservice day for the GHC teachers. We will meet online as a school staff and also with the other grade and content level teachers in the Collaborative to discuss and share our remote teaching experiences. ●Our final day of school for the 2019-2020 school year will be Friday, May 29. All of the elementary schools in the Collaborative will be finishing on this day as well. ●We hope to coordinate days in early June where GHC materials (chromebooks and textbooks) that were borrowed can be dropped off while lockers are cleaned out. The exact dates and time will be made available in the coming weeks.
